How to Fix Roblox Error Code 403

5 min readUpdated April 2026

Error 403 on Roblox means "Access Denied" — the server received your request but refused to complete it. Here's what causes it and how to fix it.

What Does Error 403 Mean?

A 403 error means Roblox's servers received your request but rejected it. This is different from a network error (where your device can't reach Roblox at all). The connection worked — but something about your request was blocked.

Common Causes of Error 403

  • Your session has expired and you need to log back in
  • Browser cookies are corrupted or outdated
  • A VPN or proxy is flagging your connection
  • The game or page you're trying to access is restricted for your account
  • Your account has an age restriction preventing access to this content
  • Roblox's servers are having a temporary issue

Fix 1: Log Out and Log Back In

The most common cause is an expired session token.

  1. Click your username (top right) → Log Out
  2. Close your browser or the Roblox app completely
  3. Reopen and log back in
  4. Try the game or page again

This fixes the error in roughly 60% of cases.

Fix 2: Clear Browser Cache and Cookies

Corrupted cache data is the second most common cause.

On Chrome:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + Delete (Mac)
  2. Set time range to All time
  3. Check Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files
  4. Click Clear data
  5. Log back into Roblox

On the Roblox desktop app (Windows):

  1. Press Win + R, type %localappdata%\Roblox and press Enter
  2. Delete the logs folder
  3. Relaunch Roblox

Fix 3: Disable Your VPN

If you're using a VPN or proxy, Roblox may be blocking your IP address.

  1. Disconnect from your VPN completely
  2. Refresh Roblox
  3. Try the game again

If the error goes away, your VPN's IP address is flagged. Try a different VPN server or use a different VPN provider.

Fix 4: Try a Different Browser or Device

If the error only happens in one browser, the issue is browser-specific.

  1. Try opening Roblox in a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
  2. Or try the Roblox desktop app instead of a browser
  3. Or try on a phone or tablet

If it works on another browser, reset the original browser to default settings.

Fix 5: Check If Roblox Is Down

If none of the above work, the issue may be on Roblox's end.

Check our Is Roblox Down?page for live server status. If Roblox's servers are having issues, the only fix is to wait. Server-side 403 errors typically resolve within a few hours.

Fix 6: Check Account Restrictions

If you're getting a 403 on a specific game or feature (not site-wide), your account settings may be restricting access.

For under-13 accounts: Some content is automatically restricted.

Account Restrictions: If Account Restrictions are enabled, only a curated list of games is accessible.

Check Settings → Privacy → Account Restrictions.

Fix 7: Reinstall Roblox

If the error appears every time on the desktop app:

  1. Uninstall Roblox (Control Panel → Programs on Windows, or drag to Trash on Mac)
  2. Download a fresh installer from roblox.com
  3. Install and log back in

When to Contact Roblox Support

Include:

  • Your username
  • What you were trying to do when the error appeared
  • Your device and operating system
  • Whether the error is site-wide or only on specific pages

FAQs

Q: Error 403 appeared suddenly — I was playing fine before.

Most likely your session expired. Log out, clear cookies, and log back in. This resolves sudden 403 errors in the vast majority of cases.

Q: I get 403 on mobile but not desktop (or vice versa).

The error is device or app specific. Try reinstalling the Roblox app on the affected device.

Q: The error only happens on one specific game.

That game may be region-locked, age-restricted, or temporarily taken down by the developer. Try a different game to confirm the issue is game-specific.
