Roblox updates automatically on most devices — but sometimes the update gets stuck, fails silently, or you need to force it manually. Here's how to update on every platform.

Why Roblox Needs to Be Updated

Roblox releases updates frequently — sometimes multiple times per week. Playing on an outdated version can cause:

  • Being unable to join certain games
  • Error messages on launch
  • Missing new features
  • Performance issues

The good news is Roblox is designed to update itself. Most of the time you don't need to do anything.

How Roblox Updates Work

When you click Playon any game in your browser, Roblox automatically checks for updates and downloads them before launching. This happens every single time you play — you're always running the latest version when you start a game normally.

On mobile, updates come through the App Store or Google Play like any other app.

  2. Go to roblox.com in your browser
  3. Click Play on any game
  4. When prompted, click Download and Install Roblox
  5. Run the installer — it will reinstall the latest version over the existing one

If Roblox is stuck updating:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
  2. End any RobloxPlayerBeta or RobloxPlayerLauncher processes

FAQs

Does Roblox update automatically?

Yes — on PC and Mac, Roblox updates every time you click Play. On mobile, it updates through the app store like any other app.

How do I know what version of Roblox I have?

On PC: open the Roblox app, go to Settings. The version number is shown at the bottom. On mobile: check the App Store or Play Store — the current version is listed on the app page.

Roblox updated and now something is broken — what do I do?

This is rare but happens occasionally after major updates. Check the Roblox Developer Forum or the Roblox Twitter/X account for news about known issues. Usually fixed within 24–48 hours.

Can I play Roblox without updating?

Usually no. Roblox requires the current version to connect to game servers. If your version is outdated, you'll typically get an error when trying to join games.
